NO MISTAKES ABOUT SAFETY: NMW 2016
22 Feb 2016
Despite countless projects and programs over many years, manufacturing is still starring - for the wrong reasons - on work health and safety lists. Finding out the reasons why, and what to do now, will be a core focus of speaker programs at this year's National Manufacturing Week and Safety First Conference & Expo (May 11 - 13, Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park).
The Safety First Conference & Expo is a one-stop safety event, bringing together a showcase of safety solutions alongside a packed conference program, with industry leaders sharing the latest research and strategies for improving workplace safety. Safety First runs alongside National Manufacturing Week, Australia's largest, longest-running industry event. NMW is the even that brings industry together to see and touch new technologies, and hear ideas for the future.
Among provocative ideas being presented this year is - from Cristian Sylvestre, MD of Safe Start - information from the world of neuroscience suggesting a new aspect to safety: that unconscious errors arise from inattention - and that safety can be improved by keeping people's minds alert.
As Cristian relates: “Anyone who has ever driven a car home without being able to remember the last five minutes of driving knows all too well about autopilot. The reality is that when we feel safe, we're far more likely to start operating in autopilot - to pay less attention.
"The answer, of course, is not to dismantle current safety systems, but rather to teach personal safety skills that help people pay attention more often."
Cristian is sharing these insights, as well as tools for improving your chances of not having a workplace incident, in a Premium Forum session at the Safety First Conference & Expo.
The full Safety First Conference program - which includes free and premium sessions - will complement National Manufacturing Week's bursting-at-the-seams program, which includes a range of presentations on vital industry issues.
NMW will also provide an eye-opening showcase of new manufacturing capabilities.
The event traditionally draws together hundreds of brands from around the world - many of them on display for the first time in Australia - displayed in Product Zones dedicated to specialist industry sector.
This year's event will be laid out in 12 Product Zones, with three of these - Additive Manufacturing, Advanced Materials and Digital Manufacturing - showcasing the new technologies, processes and materials that are transforming the manufacturing sector.
Industry leaders including Konica Minolta, Amaero Additive Manufacturing, 3D Printing Systems, 3D Printing Studios and Sydney 3D Printing - as well as industry suppliers including Hoganas AB and more have already committed to taking part, ensuring this year's event has a critical mass of options for those looking to making their first - or their next! - investment in 3D printing technologies.
Alongside these New Manufacturing solutions, NMW will also present an Automation & Robotics Product Zone, generating the buzz of new opportunities for using automation to produce more, more quickly.
NMW is held only once every two years in Sydney: which makes NMW 2016 a 'must not miss' event for businesses seeking solutions, new ideas and opportunities to be inspired by industry leaders. To make the most of the event, register now at nationalmanufacturingweek.com.au.
