DEFENCE ‘SMALL BUT GROWING’ AT NMW
13 Mar 2013
Australian defence industry companies have a proud history of delivering advanced-technology, rugged military equipment. A range of innovations contributing to this capability will be on show at National Manufacturing Week 2013 (May 7-10, Melbourne) as a highlight of this year’s show.
Co-located with Austech, NMW 2013 is Australia’s largest manufacturing industry event, designed to strengthen industry through technology, innovation and education.
Reflecting the changing nature of industry – as manufacturers seek out niche, higher value sectors in which to gain a competitive edge – NMW has, in recent years, included an increasing number of companies supplying military-grade products and services.
“Defence manufacturing represents a small but growing part of NMW,” said NMW 2013 Exhibition Director, Paul Baker.
“Defence manufacturing is a sector that tests manufacturers’ sophistication – in terms of being able to answer the documentation, quality, compliance and quantity requirements of military applications. So it is exciting to see that NMW includes increasing numbers of companies able to meet these exacting requirements.”
Among defence electronics manufacturers participating in NMW 2013 will be:
Allied Connectors (Stand 3417)
Allied Connectors specializes in high to medium voltage military specification connectors and cable assemblies for defence and other applications where product integrity and ruggedness is critical. The company is bringing a range of military-grade connectors – including new products – to NMW 2013.
SEC Plating Pty Ltd (Stand 1411)
SEC Plating Pty Ltd (established 1947) is a supplier of electroplating, electrochemical and surface coating services to defence, aerospace and other industries. At NMW 2013, they are presenting a new product, MAGnanoSHIELD, an innovative surface coating that provides a new antimicrobial technology offering microbe resistance in conjunction with other beneficial surface properties.
Australian Calibrating Services (A'sia) Pty Ltd (Stand 3313)
Now more than 40 years old, ACS provides materials testing equipment and measuring instruments for aerospace and related applications. ACS will be showcasing: Tovey Engineering, force transducers and force calibration systems with industry leading accuracy and reliability. The standard force products are used for research and development, materialcreep and fatigue, component, sub-assembly and final assembly testing.
“These companies are just an example of the more than 300 suppliers who will be displaying new solutions and capabilities at NMW. It’s going to be a great exhibition for organisations – from all sectors – seeking new ideas and technologies,” Baker said.
Attendance at NMW 2013 is free to the trade – and registration is now open at nationalmanufacturingweek.com.au.
