HotShot thermal imagers go beyond traditional point-and-shoot thermal imaging cameras,
combining quality image production with powerful new, yet simple-to-use, features which
allow data to be entered and logged onsite.
A qwerty keyboard is used to enter descriptive image file names, asset locations and
inspection comments. Meanwhile, pull-down menus on a personal data assistant (PDA)-
type touch screen record equipment type, diagnosis, repair recommendations and severity
codes.
This is regarded as more reliable, accurate and efficient than traditional image and
inspection information recording methods such as hand-written notes. It also means data
does not have to be re-entered back in the office.
The HotShot thermal imagers also offer route-based inspections by prompting users about
their next inspection. This is an effective and accountable way of managing repetitive
inspections of critical assets. The camera can also learn routes to provide a survey report
that identifies future inspections and helps to manage asset histories and locate
anomalies.
HotShots feature a temperature range of up to 500°C, a high quality 160 x 120
microbolometer infrared image sensor with sophisticated pixel interpolation that increases
display resolution to 240 x 180, in-built visible light camera, motorised focus, 2X digital
zoom, 6 palettes, optional 3X telephoto and wide angle lenses and a set of measurement
tools including up to five spot area and profile meters.
The cameras also include ReportIR software which automatically generates reports of five
to 105 pages in less than three minutes. Reports are based on the image file, which holds
a 12Bit radiometric image and temperature analysis, as well as information gathered by
the user who simply downloads the image files to a PC via USB or CF card, pastes the
files into the ReportIR workspace and selects the report format. The software then
automatically inserts the image files and data into the template and generates a report.
This automatic report generation removes traditional labour-intensive manual data
collection and collating methods while routinely capturing all infrared and visible images at
each inspection point and generating reports, provides evidence of inspections for the
parties concerned.
